Walnuts

This walnut tree was in our backyard when we moved to Blackheath 40 years ago but it never produced anything so I only knew it was a walnut because a knowledgeable friend told me so.
Then, about 10 years ago, it got flattened by a huge branch that came off one of the oak trees in a storm - there was hardly anything left but for once, I left the chainsaw in the shed.
Since then it has thrived to the extent that every couple of years it produces hundreds of walnuts, the examples in the blip being five or six weeks off the finished product. I know when they are about a week off picking because the cockies move in overnight, take a large bite out of each walnut and throw them all on the grass!
We usually save a few with netting but it’s yet another reason why Sulphur Crested Cockatoos are my least favourite Australian native bird.
