Moss
Wilkipedia tells me that there are approximately 12,000 species of Moss in the world.
Here is one of them. Our damp climate is very suitable for them and in the village we have many walls which look like this.
And that really is the colour. I have not enhanced it.
Mosses are part of a family called Briophytes. They do not have seeds. But if you look carefully you will see that they grow little capsules on tiny stalks. Those capsules eventually burst and release large numbers of spores which are distributed by the wind.
Took this shot on a walk this morning from our front door up through the woods on the side of Arnside Knott. Two or three years ago we would have regarded it as a gentle stroll.
But with advancing years we now regard it as an achievement. The most important thing is that we can still do it.
