Every student teacher who trained at Charlotte Mason College in Ambleside will be familiar with this portrait of Charlotte Mason who died 200 years ago.
Our training was based on her pioneering philosophy of education as child- centred in a living environment. There was an emphasis on the natural world and we were encouraged to record observations in our nature diaries. My most memorable discovery was that a dew drop in a blade of grass reflected an inverted image of myself. Not many people know that!
