A Quiet Saturday
A very quiet day. Feeling very fatigued and achy but my pain was bearable which was a positive.
I started off my day with a (fairly) healthy breakfast (extra) and rested. I did some housework which I didn’t have either the motivation or energy to do but I felt much better getting it done. I was very careful to pace myself.
Today is the birthday of one of my best friends, John. I’ve mentioned him before, he is such a good laugh. He posted some fantastic photos and a short video from Korea, where he is living and working at present. He has had a wonderful day celebrating with his girlfriend, they went on a day trip and took loads of fantastic shots of beautiful lights and other tourist attractions.
Texted my friend Rosie back today too - it’s her son’s 10th birthday tomorrow. It must be a weekend for birthdays! She says he is beyond excited. I hope they have a wonderful day celebrating tomorrow.
This afternoon, I watched the Lady Gaga documentary, Five Foot Two (main Blip). I’ve watched it twice before. She has fibromyalgia like myself. There are a lot of people who are very critical about her online and seem to have a rather vicious resentment towards her putting herself as a spokesperson for fibromyalgia sufferers.
I have never really understood this attitude. The comments always focus on the fact that she is very wealthy - through hard work like many, many other people in the world, with and without fibromyalgia. Where does all this toxicity come from around chronic illness? Does social media cause it or does it just give the hate a platform? Even amongst people with the same condition as yourself, the comments are breathtaking.
I don’t want to tar every support group with the same brush but I have left all of the online fibromyalgia groups I was a member of because they all descend into this negativity and hate in my experience. It does depend how good the admin/s of the groups are to be fair.
It makes me feel very sad and then I tell myself people like that are not worth feeling sad over.
I did some online singing lessons this afternoon for pain distraction - enjoyed that and listed to one half of Pick of the Pops on BBC Radio 2 as it was 1994.
I am going to skip Duolingo just for today and hope for an early night and a good quality sleep.
I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend so far. Thanks as always for all your lovely comments, stars and hearts - I really appreciate them all and this is such a supportive, positive community. How refreshing! :) xx
