A Day on The Tiles
M had her surgery on Monday. She was at the hospital at about 6:30am and didn’t get back on the ward until 6:30pm as she was last on the list. She’d been expecting to come home that night, but because she was still feeling a bit feeble by 9:00pm, they decided to keep her in overnight and I was, happily, able to bring her home on Tuesday morning.
She’s been doing remarkably well all week. Tired and sore, understandably, but in good spirits. She’s also been very good at doing the exercises she was given, and at trying to be patient while she heals.
Today, she felt well enough to take me out for breakfast at Trove in Levenshulme, which was delicious, and a rare treat for us these days.
Afterwards we drove into town to see the ‘(Un)defining Queer’ exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery, and for a second chance to see the Althea McNish fabric design exhibition, which we first saw at the William Morris gallery in Walthamstow last summer. But probably our favourite exhibition was ‘Open House’ www.whitworth.manchester.ac.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/currentexhibitions/openhouse/ which uses examples of the Whitworth’s extensive collection of vintage wallpapers and photographs to document life as it’s been lived by people whose stories are often overlooked by galleries.
We had hoped to stay for lunch at the Whitworth but the café was very busy and M was starting to flag a little so we decided to come home and get a takeaway instead.
It’s been a lovely day. In fact, the day started with M breaking into a spontaneous rendition of Madonna’s ‘Vogue’ with as many dance moves as it’s possible (or advisable…) for someone recovering from surgery to execute - so that’s got to be today’s tune. It was wonderful to see her being so joyous after so many hard months https://youtu.be/GuJQSAiODqI
