Salterhebble Guillotine Lock
Salterhebble guillotine lock is next to the bridge under Stainland Road.
A guillotine lock is a lock where the bottom gates are replaced by a single gate that lifts vertically. In this case it is electrically operated with a control panel and instructions next to the gate.
Guillotine locks are usually used when an obstruction prevents the use of the normal swing gates. In this case the obstruction is a road bridge that carries the B6112 road over the canal. In addition the other end of the lock is restricted because immediately next to it is an aqueduct carrying the canal over the River Calder.
