Heirloom tomatoes

I've been trying to paint these guys fairly unsuccessfully over the last couple of days. The last time I bought this variety (about 10 years ago) they were holey, seedy and a bit like a beefsteak tomato (i.e.tasteless).

The holey, seedy aspect is good to paint generally however when I cut these open they were much denser than I expected and fairly low on the seed count. However hard I tried they wouldn't come to life in paint (colour too muddy).

Finally I resorted to photography, which works a lot better.

The good news is I have baked them in the oven and they make an incredible tasty home made soup :-D
