Snowdrops at Fountains Abbey

The last time we visited Fountains Abbey at this time of year was about twenty or so years ago when our elderly neighbour Alice was still alive.  Alice used a wheelchair and we thought it a good place for a visit due to the ease of access.  When we arrived down at the Abbey from the Visitor Centre, the gardeners were busy planting these snowdrops and, if you bought a bag, you could plant them.  Alice was in charge of directions and Tony did the planting so it's a nice thing to think that some of this pretty spread in front of the Abbey are Alice's snowdrops.

Today we met with my schoolfriend Helen and her husband Tim for a walk and lunch in the restaurant and much catching up of holidays and films and Happy Valley.  We solved several World Problems you'll be glad to hear.    On the way home we stopped in at RHS Harlow Carr to buy seeds and source alpines for the gaps in the rockery.
