Naseby

Today we visited Market Harborough briefly. We only had a one hour car parking spot, but it was time to have a coffee in The two goats, and a quick walk around some shops. It was much duller today so we were very lucky with our weather at the locks yesterday.

From there, we drove to Naseby and stopped on the road at 'Ruperts Viewpoint' and again when almost at Naseby at 'Fairfax' Viewpoint'. These were the opposing armies led by Rupert for the king and Fairfax and Oliver Cromwell for the Parliamentarians. The info said it was the deciding battle in the English Civil War. My history knowledge is atrocious, but seeing history in situ makes me want to go and read up about it. We don't get a brilliant WiFi connection at the campsite, and non existent for the TV aerial but I have already learnt the Battle of Naseby was 1645 so will seek out a book to fill the gaps!

We drove in to Naseby, a small pretty village with All Saints church at it's centre. The church wasn't open, but we walked round the graveyard. I know Jon's many times great grandfather Thomas Gibbs born 1714 is buried here, but likely unmarked - or one of the many stones that are now illegible. I don't have details of his parents, but imagine- they will have been here when that battle was taking place. It make the family history tracing come to life, and is always more interesting when there is something more to the place the family originates from.

We drove back to the campsite and had lunch. We have been relaxing, reading, dozing all afternoon. The heater has been on today as it is noticeably cooler than yesterday.

We have received WhatsApp messages and photos from Henry who arrived ar Glen Coe today, where he has set up his tent. It looks wild, but he assures me it is a campsite. I'll put the photo in my extras. He isn't climbing mountains, but there are climbing walls nearby where he will do some climbing. Plus some wildlife photography on low level walks.

I cooked a quorn curry...we are still vegetarianing, and it was tasty. I burnt the onion bahjis but you can't have everything!

Now we are relaxing with our books and the peace and quiet.
