When The Flowering Is Nearly Over

Today was another grey day but luckily there was one shaft of late afternoon sun for just long enough for me to get this image.
I always think flowers are just as beautiful when they are dying as when they first burst into bloom. I photographed them against a black background to try to give them a dramatic send off with that ray of raking light as they gave what felt like their last breath with the scattering of pollen.
