Eastern Bluebird
It was a good morning on the Rail Trail in Amherst, with more birds within range of my lens than usual. Bluebirds were fairly numerous several weeks ago, but then mostly seemed to disappear, but a few have reappeared recently. They like to sit up, like this male (more brightly colored than a female--the Wiki page has a good comparative image).
Common yellowthroats are singing almost everywhere, but as always they are usually out of sight. They're a very attractive species of new world warbler; the male sports a bright yellow breast and black mask. One hung around close to the trail for several minutes today but stayed to the rear of the bushes; I'll hope for better luck next time.
In connection with yesterday's ovenbird, I just backdated an ovenbird I took nine years ago at the same location.
