Cracks In The Plaster

A fine day out today for Mr and Mrs I

We had a great drive out to explore the limestone escarpment of Wenlock Edge and took in fine villages such as Rushbury, Longville and Easthope.

On our return to Corvedale we stopped by at Millichope Hall, a fine country house built in the Greek Revival style. There are 220 acres of beautifully landscaped parkland, rivers, pools, cascades and lakes.

We walked along a trail to view spectacular drifts of snowdrops and there were signs of future masses of daffodils and bluebells to come later in the Spring.

We crossed a Japanese style footbridge that spans a deep cut, to allow for majestic views on the approach to the house.  And we had a look round the 17th century temple, built as a memorial to the More family and three sons who died tragically. The temple is in a poor state of repair with peeling paint, crumbling plaster and stonework. It stands on an elevated and rather exposed spot overlooking the upper lake. I presume it was located there so as to be seen from the house.

We will be back here, that's for sure.
