Catkins

Hazel catkins in mum's garden taken just as it decided to drizzle so I didn't hang about here. 

The hazel has the male and female flowers on the same plant; the female flower being the tiny v-shaped bud you can just see with the red filaments. These if pollinated become the hazelnuts in the autumn.
