The Sawdust Fusiliers

Andrew took us for a walk around Stover Park, to this interesting memorial. A group of Canadian lumberjacks came home to England to help with the WW1 war effort. By providing home grown timber for the trenches, far less had to be imported freeing up the convoys for food.
They became integrated into the local community and of course many settled here after the war.
The memorial was created in 2018 as a centennial celebration.
