Barranquilla
Called Colombia's Golden Gate, and the city where my mom was born.
We reviewed the history of the Magdalena river, the principal artery linking the interior of the country with the Caribbean Sea. This amazing boardwalk was recently built to give people a chance to enjoy the river and promote its importance. There we found many figures ready for the Mardi Gras celebration that has been going on for weeks. Music and dance are true priorities here. We also visited La Cueva, where Gabriel Garcia Márquez and his artist and writer friends used to meet for drinks. We spent the day there with cousins and then traveled by car to beautiful Cartagena.
