GLUGGAVADUR: Window Weather
Some weather is best experienced, all snuggled up, while sitting with a cup of tea,
looking out the window.
The Icelandic word, GLUGGAVADUR,
describes this kind of weather we are experiencing in California. All day it has been windy & cold with rain lashing at the
windows. A few hours ago, I received a
startling warning, on my phone. A
FLASH FLOOD WARNING had been issued
for my area. Today, I learned the difference between HAIL & GRAUPEL; but neither
has appeared. Just fierce, blowing rain.
Nearby, in higher elevations,
snow is accumulating &
a BLIZZARD WARNING was issued.
Roads & schools are closed. This is not so unusual in some areas of the US, but
it is here.
All of this is highly unusual for
Southern California. February tends to be a rainy month, but all of this is extreme.
The moisture is welcome, but not the
fallout.
Angus & I have spent the day inside,
reading & making soup. Luckily we
can embrace this Icelandic idea, of
GLUGGAVEDUR.
