We spent quite a lot of our time today walking along the shoreline in different places around Kaikoura, probably nearly five hours in total.
Firstly we scrambled our way round rocks to reach a seal colony where we watched them, adults and pups, lying about the rocks with some occasionally swimming. My estimate would be well over one hundred were there.
After visiting a supermarket for supplies and then stopping for coffee, tea and something to eat we headed to South Bay where whale watching trips depart from. So relaxed there that what was a quick half hour stop became a while longer.
Afterwards back to the apartment and then a walk through pine woods down to the sea again. We walked along the beach for a fair way before heading back through the woods to the apartment via a stroll alongside the adjacent golf course.
The blip, of a mural, was taken at The Dolphin Encounter cafe where we had our drinks. My phone pictures of the seals weren’t very good I’m afraid to say.
