Costa's Hummingbird

This little guy landed quite close to me and sat for the longest time, much to my delight. 

We had a lovely evening with our friends who are staying in Palm Desert for three months.  This couple goes way back to my husband's college days and he was best man at our wedding, so very old friends. 

In the morning, the two fellows went out for a hike and we girls headed off to the Living Desert Zoo, which was quite extraordinary, with beautiful natural habitats and animals that looked so well cared for and healthy.  I have loaded a few shots in extra. 

We met up with the boys mid afternoon at Sherman's Deli which is about as close to a New York Deli as you can get outside of New York.  Then we headed out for the hour ride back to the Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree and managed to get in, before the winds and rain started.  Los Angeles and the surrounding areas has been hit by a historical rain and snow storm of two days duration...lots of rain, here in the desert.
