A BIG SURPRISE AWAITED US

this morning. The sun shone at 8 o'c,lock, the whole sky a lovely blue colour.
I suggested to go to the Solleveld to Piet Hein. He was in for that.
Coming through a little lane we saw the lightrail coming to a stand, the tramdriver got out and walked in front of his tram. A woman already stood there and I suggested Piet Hein that we would have a look. Could it be that an accident nearly had happened. When I came closer I saw that the swan pair with their 8 cygnets stood in the high grass just before the tram.
The woman was trying to direct them towards the pond side that is still meters away. You can see the tram driver and his tram and the swans here.
The swans are used to humans, so they were not aggressive but nevertheless caution was asked for and the woman had some long paper in her hand and started to swing it in the direction of the swans. They did not seem inclined to walk
from their spot.
I tried to help too and eventually they moved slowly step by step. The littles ones following close their parents.
A road had to be crossed, a cycle path, and a footpath before they would reach the grass field along the pond. Piet Hein stood on the road to stop all cars, luckily it was early and not one appeared. I made of course the pictures, how they first hesitated, then stepping upon the road and crossing it.
In the meantime the lightrail could move again and the woman told how she had seen the swans when she arrived by car at her house.
She had stopped immediately, got out and stood before the tram, waving her arms high in the air.
She still was shaky, also because she had been truly afraid of the big swans.
But now they were safe for the moment. We continued our walk.
Through the bluebell forest into the dunes. We saw no fox, sheep at the distance, the wild horses from afar and of course the cormorants colony.
Two men with huge camera and long lenses stood at some point. Nowadays I ask of course what they were waiting for.
A Nightingale they said, had we not heard the singing? Yes we had (perhaps not realizing that beautiful song was sung by that lovely bird) we said. They pointed to a tree and said, there the bird lives, in that tree.
We continued our way back home.

My haiku:

She is my hero
The woman bravely stopping
The swift Randstadrail

Well actualy it comes there after a sharp corner and is obliged to go slowly. But we wondered if the tramdriver would have seen the swans in time.

And the proverb by Dryden:

None but the brave deserve the fair
