Wet Paint
An early blip today as we are back at the hotel, resting, building up some energy for this evening when we have booked a Celtic Nights dinner and show. We've struggled to find some really traditional music in the Temple Bar area. There is very good live music in most of the pubs, but it is quite an eclectic mix. We came across a duo with a superb fiddle player last night in the Temple Bar pub (being repainted today for the main blip). After a great solo though we realised the song was actually Daydream Believer. They finished though with a very rousing version of The Irish Rover. Incidentally the guy we watched in Fitzsimons on Sunday did Seven Drunken Nights (and an Irish song everyone else in the pub knew but which we didn't) but also did Folsom Prison Blues and a cover of Massive Attack's Teardrop! Anyway tonight's show should be more authentic. It was recommended to us by the taxi driver on Friday and we have booked him to take us back to the airport tomorrow so we will be able to complain if it isn't as good as he claimed.
By the way, a couple of you have mentioned possible visits to Dublin. Bring plenty of money, A pint of Guinness is 9 euros and a Baileys 10 euros!
We've been to the National Gallery this morning, and done some shopping. We came across the busker (first extra) on our way back to the hotel. He was actually pretty traditional sounding but I didn't recognise the song. The other extras are a sculpture of Oscar Wilde which is just outside the gallery. I'd spotted this on the bus tour on Saturday so was pleased that we managed to find it.
