Birthday cocktails
Today was a day to enjoy the villa. We did leave to do a bit of shopping in the nearby Spar which gave us a little walk and a view of the sea. PY and I spent a bit of the afternoon in the villa’s hot tub which is an experience when the temperate outside is also very hot. I did a bit of reading and we checked that the computer would allow us to log on and successfully move money around as tomorrow we are on schedule to exchange on the Isle of Wight flat.
Around 6pm Rob’s sister and friends arrived and we all had a drink before making our way to to reception to get cabs to the chosen restaurant: L’Opera Bistro in Playa Honda. The meal and service was lovely. I felt a bit sorry for Nick and Sarah as George knocked over a glass or orange juice and then could not settle. They ended up leaving a little early.
After Rob’s birthday dinner some of us took taxis back towards the resort and then decided the night was still young and made our way to a cocktail bar where there was some live music. There was a strange assortment of drinks ordered: I ordered a ‘champagne’ sangria - which I shared with Mark - while the others had cocktails of various sorts. PY, of course, went to the Espresso Martini. The sangria was disappointing and I wish we’d ordered the original.
At some point the bar clocked that it was Rob’s birthday. There was some discussion about how they found out but I believe he told them when we arrived! Anyway, he was called up by the singer for a slice of birthday cake presented on a plate with Happy Birthday written on it. They called him Bob initially but that was hastily corrected - although it didn’t stop us calling him Bob all night. And, of course, there was the obligatory audience sing-along of happy birthday. Overall, it was a great night. I hope he enjoyed it.
