Northern Lighthouse Board
Tonight it’s the BCS Edinburgh branch meeting. We have 45 folk listening to an engaging take about lighthouse in Scotland - with very little technology content.
Among other things, I learn that:
- Robert Louis Stevenson was the “failure” of the family by becoming an author rather than an engineer of lighthouses (like the rest of his family)
- the Northern Lighthouse Board manages the Isle of Man because, back in the day when it ceased being a private estate, the English and Northern boards were asked to bid on maintaining its lighthouses and the Northern bid was half that of the English
- the lighthouse board for the island of Ireland never suffered from partition. There’s still only one board for the whole of Ireland.
Thanks to SkyScanner and the excellent serving delivery of pizza - especially the Greek pizza (aubergine, feta, olive).
I also have a wooden bathroom cabinet acquired from someone moving out of Lochend Butterfly Way.
