River of Flowers

Friday: #WorldWildlifeDay

Very cold and damp and grey again today, lunchtime temperature around 7°C but feeling much colder :-(
The whole of my garden is a little wildlife sanctuary. I gave up digging and weeding years ago because it didn’t feel necessary. If there’s any bare soil it’ll get mulched with homemade compost or dead leaves, depending on the time of year - the birds think this is great and are always busy digging and scratching in different parts of the garden.
Winter is very much a time of leaving the garden to rest, I’ve been rewarded for my laziness by having goldfinch feeding on dead teasels and evening primrose seed-heads.
Tiny tidy up this morning: I cut back last year’s growth from the Hart’s Tongue Fern in order to see the new growth which is tightly coiled at the moment. I also pulled out a few runners of Yellow Dead Nettle which has spread everywhere. The reason for the mini tidy up is to be able to see the patch of Wild Garlic which looks well this year!
The mauve flower are  Periwinkle, which are growing nearby and will provide valuable nectar for the early bumblebees when they wake up from their hibernation.
We have watched all 8 episodes of “The Stranger” on Netflix last night and tonight, lots of twists and turns and very exciting!
Weekend starts here  :-)) xxxx xxx xx
Nos da pawb / goodnight all xx
