Surprisingly Elusive
This is St Mary’s Church in Portsmouth. It is certainly an imposing Gothic building and on its website is described as the ‘Mother Church of Portsea Island’. I have yet to see the interior as every time we stop it is always closed! I find it fascinating to imagine its history. It’s been a site of worship since 1164 and has witnessed the baptisms of Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Charles Dickens. Sorry not to blip its fabulous beamed ceiling or its colourful windows - another time!!
Happy Saturday
