Look Into My Eyes

... you are getting sleeping, very sleepy.

Dusty and her mate Shadow, our favorite Mourning Doves and frequent tenants out on our carport, are back for another attempt at setting up a nest to raise a family. By now they seem to have adopted us and we can come and go and putter outside without giving us a second thought.

Mourning Doves are apparently among the worst nest builders in the bird kingdom but make up for the problems this creates by being so prolific.

Their last attempt failed when a critter, probably a feral cat, found the nest, drove them off and I found the straw that had been the nest scattered on the ground the next morning. It's amazing how attached you can get, I've been worried about them for the last week or so then breathed a deep sigh of relief when I saw she had returned this morning. What can I say, it may sound silly but fine feathered family matters.
