Sewejaartjies

Sewe meaning seven, belonging to the Syncarpha botanical family, these beautiful plants form part of some 28 species, which are endemic to the fynbos of the Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa.

It’s colloquially known as “Sewejaartjies” in Afrikaans due to its fire ephemeral nature. They flower regularly after fires and produce copious amounts of seeds but rarely live longer than seven years after germination.

All done here, enjoying the last few days with my mum and back on the road on Monday.
