Edinburgh day 3
The sun was shining this morning when we woke up but it was pretty chilly too. After breakfast, we set out down the Royal Mile on the 3 mile walk to The Royal Yacht Britannia. I was really looking forward to seeing this and it didn't disappoint. Before we arrived, we did a slight detour to visit the pretty Shore and had a wander along Ocean Drive until we found the shopping centre which you have to go through to get to the yacht.
The tour is really informative and well planned. In the main photo is the Queen's bedroom with her tiny single bed. Philip's was the same size opposite. The 'honeymoon suite' was the only room with a double bed and even that was small compared to normal double beds. This is where Charles and Di (among others) honeymooned. The Queen had an office and of course there was an entertaining space where world leaders were wined and dined. The walls were lined with personal photos of the Royal family. After seeing the spotless engine room, we enjoyed a beautiful cream tea (we didn't pay the £60 for a champagne cream tea), before catching the bus back to the city centre.
We chose the bus instead of walking as we'd decided to climb Arthur's Seat before meeting an old colleague of Chris's for coffee and cake.
Going up took us 40 minutes. Although it was steep, we managed without stopping thanks to our regular gym trips. I decided against the final bit to the summit as I could see the sheer drops to the side and got scared! Chris did the final bit and survived, even though I thought he'd fallen off at one point! Walking down was really hard as you had to find your footing and my feet were being pushed forwards in my boots. By this point, they were extremely sore with all our walking. The descent got easier once we got nearer the bottom.
Finally, we headed to the NewTown to meet Mark and Vicky for a lovely drink, cake and a much-needed rest.
