This is an old viaduct. It might not look like that, but that’s what it is. All quite overgrown, and nowadays with metal railings, because parts of the parapet have fallen into the burn and cutting below. John Millar bought Millfield estate in 1842. He was the chief engineer of the new and under construction Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway. Nearby Polmont Station opened in 1842. Two estates were amalgamated when he bought the lands of neighbouring Parkhill in 1854; the viaduct is part of the connecting route and appears on the 1860 OS map.
It’s a wee while since I came this way, t’s more overgrown in summer. A tree has fallen recently and damaged the railings.
