Monument

Monument to King Alexander Third, the last Celtic King of Scotland, who fell of his horse near here during a storm in 1286. Despite the weather and the warning he was given not to travel, he was wanting to return to his young bride so he charged ahead on his horse and fell to his death. This plunged the country into chaos, created a war of succession that eventually lead to what are called the Wars of Independence and to Robert Bruce becoming King of Scot
