Lost In Time

Today we had a visit from Rotorua friends.  Their son won a trip to Nelson for the Marchfest Craft Beer and Music Festival.  He kindly gave the tickets to his parents.  Peter worked with my forester in Rotorua and he did his forestry training in the Nelson area.  He was interested to see the changes.  Debbie was the librarian at the school I worked at.  Our daughters are the same age so there was lots to catch up on.  I made this blip about her in 2016  https://www.blipfoto.com/entry/2215011348616577657
She gleefully told me the school is planning to hire a librarian because reading levels are falling.  Fancy that, giving children ipads and an overworked  classroom teacher aren't a substitute for weekly visits to the school library with a knowledgeable librarian.
We took them for a drive around and went for a walk in the Eves Valley Scenic Reserve.  It is one of the few remaining stands of native beech-podocarp forest that once covered the Waimea Plains and Moutere Hills.  Extra these bright orange fungi were out.
