Red sky at night/In the doldrums

I’ve been reading through my own unfinished attempt at a novel which might sound indulgent, but it’s something you have to do. Does it read well? Is it ganging agley? (Going wrong.) Not as far as I can tell. But I’m in the doldrums* in that it has stopped moving forward. The technical term is ‘stuck.’ However reading through it has reminded me that it ain’t bad. I found that with unfinished songs, if you sit on them for a while, you might then find a way forward.
      We were supposed to have snow today, but apart from a few aplogetic flakes there has been nothing.
* Doldrums is a sailing term meaning becalmed. (No wind.)
