Exploring the north coast
Saturday 18 February
We spent the morning on a nearby beach, Kapalua Bay beach, which we had passed on yesterdays walk, and looked to be good for snorkeling. It’s a crescent shaped bay, with the reef extending across the mouth, which keeps the water in the bay a bit sheltered. The small amount of free public beach parking was already full, but we found some pay parking belonging to a restaurant, which doesn’t open until the evening, so you can use it for beach parking until 3 pm. We saw numerous fish, and a couple of sea turtles, one hauled out on the beach, and the other nibbling on the algae on the flat rocks at the waters edge. We left the beach about mid afternoon, and decided to continue along the road along the north coast, which provided us with some stunning coastal scenery. My thumbnail photo show the Nakahele blowhole, and the top left is Kahakuloa Head, which was as far as we went, as the road was deteriorating at this point.
