Almond blossom

This is year five (I think) for this almond tree we planted. If we do make the momentous decision to move our growing operations to the Scottish Borders I guess we’ll not be having almond blossom, or chickpeas, olives, outdoor tomatoes, figs, apricots and peaches. It is a lot to weigh up.

The almond tree produced one almond last year and even here at 1500ft we are probably near the limit of its range. But the blossom is superb. I planted this down on the last terrace below the house. I was keeping it as sheltered as possible from the old north easterlies but it’s a bit of a walk to enjoy the blossom.

There is so much to learn about what grows where and compromises between position, aspect and visibility.
