Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic
This isn't the best of shots but we weren't allowed to take flash photography and I seem to have mislaid my 18-55mm lens, thus the 50mm prime lens.
What a magical day today has been. I went to the studio for a few hours to lay down all the vocals for the Keep On Walking. Immediately afterwards, Steve dropped me off at the Palace Theater for a special 4pm event. The Stamford Young Artists Philharmonic (SYAP) were celebrating their 53rd Concert Season, now under the music direction of Christian Capocaccia.
The SYAP were very kind to invite students, parents and Board of Directors from the Yerwood Center. Once arrived, I collected my ticket, went to the auditorium and setup my camera before the lights went down.
Then music began to fill the air
The SYAP organization is comprised of three orchestras, the youngest being the Young String Ensemble. They were the first orchestra on stage, performing Vivaldi's Concerto in G, Themes from the Moldau, and the Johnny Appleseed Suite. Young kids with budding talent. Next on stage was the Young People's Symphony which was organized in 1974 as a training orchestra for the SYAP. We heard great renditions amongst which were Beethoven's 5th and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Finally there came on stage the SYAP, conducted by Christian Capocaccia. The quality of the musicianship was outstanding. The orchestra played Beethoven's Corolian Overture, op. 62, Sibelius' Violin Concerto, op. 47, and West Side Story 'Selections for Orchestra'. What a wonderful Sunday afternoon.
What's is also wonderful is that the SYAP are partnering with the Yerwood Center. They will be rehearsing at the Center and hope to raise funds for us. To hear violins, bassoons, trumpets and piano pour into the corridor and fill the air will be wonderful. And may even inspire some of our kids.
