Babylon

Since 13th July 2022, blippers have been sending us photographs of places that are mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series). 

Over the past eight months we have been pleased to post 80 such pictures here on the LornaLPodcast journal. With another 21 left to source (listed below), we're currently just under four fifths of the way through this challenge.

The only problem now is that many of the places that remain on the list are rather tricky to source. This calls for some imagination to work out means of representing them.  (There are, however, a couple of exceptions. Are there really no blippers with connections with Coventry? Surely someone, somewhere, must have a box of Ilford film handy?)

Today's post is an example of how a tricky location might be addressed. In this shot supplied by hazelh, publicity details for Babylon the film represent Babylon the place.

Lorna mentions Babylon twice in her war diary. On 29th January 1940 she compares the persecutions in Nazi-occupied Germany with the Babylonian captivity of the Jews, and on 15th May 1940 she lists Babylon alongside other empires when writing about learning from the mistakes of the past. These two diary entries feature respectively in episodes 4 and 6 of the podcast series of The diary of the war.
