Two trams and a wall
Today was a holiday in Berlin. I don't have my usual class tonight and the M&M's have a day off work.
Took a trip out to Nordbahnhof which took us to another memorial of the Berlin wall.On many streets there are clear signs of where the wall was. This site was interesting because being close to a train station gave opportunities to escape to the west via the tunnel network for the S Bahn. The wall required a lot of space around it with a smaller one on the Eastern side. Watch towers were erected to spot anything unusual. They occupied a middle space between the smaller and larger wall. Many buildings had either their windows boarded up or were torn down to make space for the wall. Around the site there is a large area which gives a sense of what it may have been like before and also during the time of the DDR. With a world on fire I wonder how far we are from more walls being built again.
It is international women's Day and so we went to a protest. The issues in the UK exist in Germany too. The work of women being neither recognised or renumerated the main issue.
