6th August, 1945

It's 8:15, and that's the time that it's always been
We got your message on the radio, conditions normal and you're coming home

Enola gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Aha this kiss you give, it's never ever gonna fade away.

Japan - Day 9: Hiroshima

Hisoshima is one of the most profoundly moving places I have ever visited. Testimony of man's inhumanity to fellow man, it is hard to comprehend how such a decision could have been taken. Although the Enola Gay's payload brought about a rapid end to WWII, the human cost was immense. It is estimated that of the city's 350,000 inhabitants, 140,000 had died a horrible death by the end of 1945.

The Peace Memorial Museum is an extraordinary place, informative and thought-provoking without stepping over the line into rhetoric or hysteria. For me, the most chilling exhibit was a watch stopped at 8.15.

Today's blip is the Cenotaph for the bomb's victims. Through its arch you can see the so-called A-Dome, the remains of a building over which the bomb was detonated.

Again, thank you so much for your comments, stars and hearts for yesterday's blip. I am so glad that you liked it and I will get around to your journals in the next few days.
