Wren ( Troglodytes troglodytes )
I only took three shots today all of this little fella. Purely an opportunist shot, I looked out of the window and grabbed the camera. I had time for only three shots before it flew off. I suspect the wren is regularly in the garden but as it mainly stays in the undergrowth we don't see it often and get even fewer chances to photograph it.
The hard winters of the mid 60s hit the wren population very hard. Fortunately, since then there has been a 94% increase in population. Population growth was fairly slow as the average life span of a Wren is two years. For such a small bird there have been some remarkable ringing recoveries e.g. near Marseille in Southern France and Lithuania.
