Rome Day 5

Last day and a visit to the Vatican.

After our previous exertions we decided to indulge ourselves and took a taxi. Much less strenuous.

First stop the museums. Superb collection of ancient Egyptian and Ancient Roman artifacts. I was so excited I may have touched a marble statue of Claudius that was found at Hadrian’s villa. Ooops! A packed Sistine Chapel but worth the visit. Back outside the queue for St. Peter’s was still winding it’s way around the square so we decided we had had enough culture for the day and got a taxi back to the hotel. The driver took us through some previously undiscovered streets so after a revising spritz we wandered back a little way for some final shopping. A return to the hotel to drop off our purchases and a delicious risotto in a restaurant almost next door to the hotel. Ended the meal with a small tiramisu. Much better portion size and less sickly.
