Black and White Abstract
It may be abstract, but it is very much straight out of the camera, taken through the window from the living room couch. The only thing I did was turn the camera.
It started raining early this morning, but really got down to business at about one o'clock. We are under a flood watch until Tomorrow evening. We're not in any danger of flooding living on a hill as we do, but there are plenty of roads and supersaturated ground which make driving very far inadvisable.
They are expecting 8 more feet of snow in the Sierra on top of I don't know how many they have had already. Travel there will be very difficult if not impossible, and there are fears that the warmer rain from the 'atmospheric river' we are currently experiencing will cause the snow to become very heavy, causing damage to uncleared roofs or heavy snow melt and more flooding.
I got out for a haircut this morning and told my lovely hairdresser that I couldn't do a thing with my hair and was throwing myself on her mercy. (I'm sure she's never heard that before) She decided I should 'embrace the curls' and cut my hair accordingly. It's always one thing when she cuts it and something entirely different when I wash it, but we'll see.
My friend in Corvallis has had a stroke on top of a fractured wrist and a cracked pelvis and although she is improving somewhat, she will probably have to go to rehab in Eugene. Her husband is still recovering from a knee replacement and can't drive so they are isolated rom one another for now. Their children are helping out for now, but their situation is yet another reminder of how one's entire life can be changed in an instant.
Our neighbor whose wife is in South Africa called today to say that she has contracted Covid and won't be able to get on an airplane until she tests negative. She was supposed to come home Saturday, but it looks like it will be another ten days before she can get another flight.. At their request, we have been calling him every day to make sure he's ok, He's very independent and able to take care of himself, but prone to falling, so Ann got him an Apple watch which will detect if he falls, ask if he's ok, and call paramedics if he doesn't answer.
And of course, we are also being told that one winter of unprecedented rain and snow will not be enough to end the drought.
