Early start

I slept very badly, and finally went downstairs to make a cup of tea not long after 5 a.m. I realised that our intrepid milkwoman - who comes from a farm in the hills just outside Sheffield - had already made her delivery. This was a real feat, as the road proved impassable to anyone else till much later in the day. To judge from the snowy layers on flower pots and cars, we've had something like 8 inches of snow.
I went back to bed for a bit in the afternoon, and caught up on sleep; the perk of the retired person. Later I went for a walk down to the River Don and back (extra): the sunlight was wonderful. Apparently we'll get freezing temperatures again overnight, and then perhaps a thaw later in the weekend.
I've just seen that Gary Lineker is to 'step back' from presenting BBC's Match of the Day until there's an 'agreement' reached about his social media use. All this because he pointed out, with perfect accuracy, that our Home Secretary's language, about migration, had parallels with the language used in 1930s Germany about Jews. He did describe the language she used, and the whole policy direction as 'awful'. Which it is. As many have pointed out, the current chairman of the BBC is a known Tory supporter who helped Boris Johnson (when PM) to arrange an £800,000 loan.  At least Gary Lineker has had a lot of support for what he said.
