Brave avocado plant

As much as I love flowers and plants I am a very bad caregiver for my houseplants. I do have several orchid plants which seem to thrive on neglect and a couple of other houseplants that bravely try to survive. My avocado plant is one of them, it does grow new leaves all the time, but as you can see from the image on the left hand side it does look very sorry on its enormous stem with 4 new leaves at the top. I thought admirer might have a smile for this maybe. Because it is always Silly Saturday.
