Roncesvalles
Roncesvalles is the latest addition to our blipper-sourced online photo album of places mentioned in Lorna Lloyd's Diary of the war (previously blipped in full in the LornaL journal, and now available as a podcast series). Many thanks to veronica for sending this photograph to h.hall@napier.ac.uk as a contribution to our challenge.
Currently we have no photos in the pipeline for this journal :-( We would therefore be very grateful if other friendly blippers (like veronica and those mentioned below) could check our list to see if they are able to donate a shot (not previously blipped) of (or to represent) any of the places.
Albania: Durrës (Durazzo)
Egypt: Sidi Barrani
England (3): Coventry; Leigh, Gloucestershire; Shrivenham, Oxfordshire
France (4): Bailleul, Dunkirk, Forest of Compiègne, the Maginot Line
Finland (2): Hanko (Hangö), Mannerheim Line
Germany: Heligoland
Greece: Thermopylae
Italy: Taranto
Poland: Silesia
Russia (3): Karelian Isthmus, Petsamo province (part of Finland until 1944), Vyborg (Viipuri in Finland until 1944)
Spain: Guernica
Lorna mentions Roncesvalles once in her diary of World War II on March 13th 1940. Here she writes about the efforts of the Finns against the Russians with reference to the Battle of Roncevaux Pass. This is covered in Episode 4 of the podcast series of the Diary of the war.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this challenge so far:
