Stuart House, Musselburgh

This 17th century house on Musselburgh High Street is across the road from Lucas Cafe (of ice-cream fame) where I was meeting my sister and a pal.

It was built as Carriage Inn around 1650 and was known as the French Ambassador's House. I've always been intrigued by the four different stone carved finials above the windows - possibly a Celtic crescent, rose, fleur de lys and thistle.  They may represent emblems of Ireland, England, France, Scotland.
