South Georgia

This afternoon we made landfall at Elsehul, South Georgia — about 900 miles southeast of the Falkland Islands, and one of the most remote places in the world.

Famous for its teeming wildlife — King penguins, fur seals and elephant seals in particular, along with loads of albatross.

We were scheduled to go on a 90-minute Zodiac exploration this afternoon, but unfortunately the swells made it too dangerous to board the boats.  Instead, we will slowly cruise close to the shore in the ship in the hopes of seeing some amazing sights.

Better luck tomorrow we hope, when we are supposed to go ashore.

Here you can see the Zodiac reconnaissance team returning to the ship with the bad news about the swells, Mr. W leaning longingly on our balcony, and a partly cloudy view of this beautiful island.
