Standard Stane

Walk in Devilla Forest today to find the Standard Stane. The Standard Stane is where King Duncan supposedly raised his standards before fighting a Danish army at a battle on Bordie Moor in 1038. The battle is the one before the one that MacBeth is supposed to have won for him, and that Shakespeare based his play on. A battle against Vikings did take place here, which apparently the Vikings won before heading further North and eventual defeat to MacBeth. MacDuff in the play was Thane of Fife and there is a castle not far from here that is associated with him. Other theories suggest it has something to do with riding the old marches between Tulliallan and Culross, or that it once held stone crosses.
