Architectural Contrasts
On the left of the picture is a type of tower or steeple fairly unique to Aberdeen.
The local joiner must have had a template he trotted out.
But I suppose if it worked in those days, you stuck with it.
There are half a dozen of them including one on the Auld Hoose of the College
where I work. It is not in the original design so it must be an addition
from late 1700's I reckon, must find out exactly when.
Most of the other ones are all hidden away on backstreets now,
This one is prominent on Union Street next to the High Court and Town House.
Although I suspect most people never notice it.
This View is from Poultry Market Lane
The building to the right I think is the back of 1970's Nelson Street police station.
