Cu Chi Tunnels

Today is our last full day in Vietnam so we had arranged a trip to see the Cu  Chi tunnels . Our guide picked us up at 8am and we headed North West out of Saigon through the morning traffic for fully an hour into the countryside.
He explained how the complex system of tunnels had been built at different levels with some of them 12 metres deep.

A bit like the war museum we visited the first day visitors are not spared the horrors of how the tunnels were used during the Vietnam war .
The blip shows just how small the entrances were to the tunnels with the young girl demonstrating- I couldn’t help thinking some of the group watching would have had some difficulty getting in !  ( also the 2nd extra)
I went a short way into the larger tunnel in the first extra but declined the offer to crawl further in !

We returned in the early afternoon and later we took a walk to the Tao Dan Park not far from our hotel - a peaceful place with trees and shelter from the sun. It is popular with the locals for Tai Chi especially in the early morning.
As we sat on a bench a young man approached and took a brush out of his old wooden box and started to wipe off some marks on Mrs AMK’s trainers. She was happy to let him and he spent a while carefully cleaning off the grime from 2 weeks of Vietnam travel. ( 3rd extra). He seemed very happy with the bundle of smaller denomination dong notes that had accumulated in my wallet.
