Old vs New
Last night after supper I had just sat down to watch TV when the TV and lights went off. It seems that the bad karma in this house has reared its ugly head again, as we lost all power to the TVs, the alarm system, lighting in certain rooms, the Wi-Fi, one freezer, the intercom system etc. Our house has 3 phase power and it turns out that one phase had blown which was affecting those areas. This morning U.K. Power Networks came to try and fix it, they confirmed that something caused the one phase to burn out (it could have been worse and a fire could have developed as the cables actually burned) but were unable to fix it as they only attend to the power source coming in to the property from the street and not within the house. They were very helpful though and told us what to do, so another call was made to the electrician who knows this house and he arranged to squeeze us in today. In addition to the chaos this morning the police turned up as unknown to us the panic alarm was triggered due to the lack of power supply and they are obliged to visit in person if they receive a panic trigger. Thankfully Gavin cancelled meetings in London and worked from home today, not that he could do much without wi-fi - plus his car had not charged as the electric car charger was not working, the electric garage doors had to be manually over ridden - it sure was fun and games this morning!! We both just looked at each other and said let’s get rid of this damn house and get something smaller and simpler. However, that is easier said than done as this is a large property and the market is not great for such houses at the moment but we are getting really fed up.
I walked Xena in the rain this morning and then got the train to London where I was meeting my photography group, the one that is run by a former teacher at the boys’ school. I was worried about train problems due to strikes this week but the trains were okay. The idea was to photograph old vs new in the city. We wandered around taking photos in the city and here is a selection of what we saw. Thankfully the rain in the morning cleared to give us some bright skies.
Everyone went on to supper at a restaurant after the photography session but I came home, I have not had a Friday night at home for a while and just felt like relaxing at home. The specialist electrician had come in my absence, replaced the burnt out part and everything was in working order again. Thank goodness order has been restored once again!
