British Museum

BACK BLIP

Yesterday W and I met for lunch in the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. I'm not really interested in seeing an opera but I do fancy a tour of the building. We then wandered up to the British Museum. It's vast and we explored just one part of it on the ground floor. We saw the Parthenon Sculptures (Elgin Marbles).
They are a collection of Ancient Greek  Sculptures from the Parthenon and other structures from the Acropolis of Athens, removed from Ottoman Greece to Britain by agents of Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin between 1801 and 1812. The movement of these 'Marbles' has long been subject of international controversy.

The day started very drizzly but by late afternoon the sun was out and it was quite warm.
